Who we are
Music to Life (and the Accelerator) operate as a virtual organization with a geographically diverse executive and advisory board, contracting with skilled experts around the country, coordinating planning, research, meetings and calendars online and via videoconference, and traveling as strategic interests and key programs demand.
Our collaborative partners and organizational allies over the years have included multiple artist managers, biz and music industry executives such as: Bloomberg Media, Penn State, Berklee College of Music, Rhino Records, Sunshine Sachs, Center for Cultural Innovation, New England Foundation for the Arts, Folk Alliance International, UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, Grammy Museum.
Our artist friends are talented socially conscious musicians across genres, styles and generations including: Ysaye Barnwell (Sweet Honey in the Rock), Aloe Blacc, Tom Chapin, Gina Chavez (UN Cultural Ambassador), Ronny Cox, Judy Collins, Michael Franti, Aisha Fukushima (founder of Raptivism), Bernice Reagon Johnson, Maya Jupiter, Christine Lavin, Buffy Sainte Marie, Kathy Mattea, Holly Near, Tom Paxton, Josh White, Jr, Jasiri X (1Hood Media), Peter Yarrow.
Our values stem from our history and roots as an organization – shaped by activist artists for activist artists – and the diverse, inclusive and justice-driven goals of our board, allies and participating musicians. We are a progressive organization that believes in building bridges as we work toward equality, freedom, human rights and peaceful, kind, community-enhancing solutions to our shared global challenges.
